Dr. Christine Shaver, who heads the NYC division of Bernstein Medical – Center for Hair Restoration, explained Follicular Unit Excision (FUE). In the early 2000s, Bernstein Medical pioneered this less invasive alternative to FUT surgery, publishing the first medical research on the procedure. In many cases, FUE is performed on patients with shorter hair and does not leave a linear scar. Transcript of the Video:
FUE stands for Follicular Unit Excision. It’s a type of hair transplant that involves removing individual naturally occurring follicular units which are composed of either 1, 2, 3, or 4 hair follicles within a given unit. So those are then grafted into the recipient area where people desire more hair and it mimics nature. It’s nice and elegant looking. So, ultimately people often opt for FUE if they like short hairstyles because with FUE you have tiny little dot-like scars which allows people to keep their hair quite short rather than the standard type of hair transplant that does give a line scar. In our office, we use the Artas iX robotic system to do all of our FUE. This is nice because it provides very accurate and consistent harvesting and ultimately a really elegant-looking hair transplant.Related Posts:
