Dr. Bernstein explains why transplanted hair will grow in an area of balding on the scalp.
Dr. Bernstein: That's a great question. The reason why you can do a hair transplant is because of what is called "Donor Dominance". Which means that the hair [on the back of your scalp] is permanent even if you move it. The donor hair will grow even if you move it to a different area. Interestingly, if you take hair from [the front of the scalp] and move it to the back of the scalp, where you would think the hair would last forever, it would continue to bald.
