I decided to have a surgical hair restoration procedure because I like the prospect of having my OWN hair growing on my head instead of a weave or wigs. The idea of this fascinated me. After having the hair transplant procedure explained to me in-depth, I was amazed that it was not nearly as uncomfortable as I thought it might be. Swelling was minimal and I was able to return to work the next day. Having the procedure was one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself. Not only did it change my appearance but help booster self confidence. Now when I look in the mirror I like what I see.

It has been almost eight years since my second hair transplant and it has been wonderful. My new head of hair has given me a lot of confidence and boosted my self-esteem. When I look in the mirror and see my head of hair, it makes me feel good about myself and this translates to me being in a good mood, having a good day and enhances my interactions with others. It also makes me look and feel younger and invigorated. I am going to be 49 years old in a month’s time and without any hair, I would probably look 10-15 years older.

I have often thought about why something like having a head-full of hair would make a difference to my life. Yes, it may only be superficial but aren’t most things based on appearances? Like it or not, we are often judged at the first instance by how we present ourselves. Looking well groomed and fit shows the world you take good care of yourself and take pride in how you look and this is something positive and self-empowering.

I asked my PCP for a prescription for Propecia and I have been using minoxidil since before 2005. I had been considering a hair transplant for many years now. Fortunately, having been on Propecia for 12 years, my hair loss was more towards the mild side, so I only needed around 1,400 grafts. Since I do have to wear a helmet at work and always wear the back and sides very short, I knew the standard STRIP (FUT) method would not work well for/with me. Having followed Dr. Bernstein’s progress as one of the early pioneers of the ARTAS Robotic FUE system, I knew without a doubt that ARTAS was the technology, and Dr. Bernstein was by far the best hair restoration surgeon to perform the procedure.

I must say, there was some nervousness prior to the procedure, but the entire process was so much easier and painless than I had possibly imagined. I could not even feel when the ARTAS was retrieving donor hair, nor when the transplant sites were being made. I had little to no pain or discomfort even after the procedure. The staff was incredibly accommodating and responsive to every question. I’m looking forward to seeing the full results of Dr. Bernstein’s work in the coming months.

Having had previous hair transplant procedures with other Doctors, I feel that I am in the position to comment on my experience in your office.

I must compliment you and your staff on making my hair restoration procedure a very pleasurable experience. I would also like to sincerely thank you for your complete professionalism and honesty. Let me explain what I mean.

Just prior to the procedure, as I was sitting in the operating room you came in to review the areas that you were going to transplant. My procedure was for 500 grafts, in the case of hair transplants, this is considered a mini-session. As you were reviewing the course of action I said to you that if you feel that I need more grafts than previous discussed I had no problem with your decision. At this point you could have very easily told me just about any reasonable recommendation and I would have agreed to it. Your response to me was that 500 grafts would be sufficient. I am aware that this could have been the ideal opportunity to generate additional income to your practice. But based upon your response, you showed me that you are a man of complete integrity and professionalism. In this day and age it is quite refreshing to know that there are still Doctors out there that are more interested in the well being of their patients than the all mighty dollar.

I just wanted to drop you a line to let you know how I am doing. I am eleven days post-op. My scabbing/crusting is totally gone. Tomorrow will be my first day back to work, and I have no concern that my procedure will be detected by my co-workers. I have examined my scalp in the mirror under bright lights and I cannot tell that I had anything done. I have a hard time keeping my hands off of my head and feeling the new growth up there. I know that more than likely they will shed and I will have to be patient for the re-growth to appear. I keep hoping that I will be one of the five percent who retains their implants, but will not be shocked it I am not.

I am thrilled with my decision to go ahead with my procedure, and am even more pleased that I chose you and your staff to do the work. You all made me feel very comfortable on a day that I thought would be very stressful. It was in fact an enjoyable day. Probably a small part of that was attributable to the drugs.
